International Nursery and Reception (Kindergarten) School
Invictus School in Phnom Penh is a co-educational day school that offers international education for Nursery and Reception (Kindergarten). Invictus utilises the United Kingdom Early Years Foundation Stage (UK EYFS) curriculum for our Nursery and Reception classes, which is part of the national curriculum used in the UK. Our Young Learners Curriculum
Our pre-school curriculum is focused on the understanding that every child is unique, always learning, and has the potential to be resilient, confident, self-assured and capable. Each child is given the opportunity to learn by interacting in positive relationships and enabling environments, developing self-confidence at their own pace. Teachers observe and understand the way each child learns while responding to their needs, interests and feelings. Children learn to be independent and are supported in their learning through positive relationships with their educators.
We understand that when a child's education starts young, it becomes formative to their mental and social development. The curriculum uses games and play to allow teachers to assess progress and plan the next steps for each individual child. 3What Curriculum is used at Invictus Phnom Penh? |
At Invictus, we utilise the UK Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) for students aged 4 to 5. Our primary years programme uses the Cambridge Primary Curriculum. It is based on the UK national curriculum used by many schools worldwide and has the added benefit of a global mindedness which is key to raising global citizens.
The Cambridge Primary Curriculum is supplemented with Jolly Phonics, a UK phonics-based program. Jolly Phonics uses a fun and child-centred approach to teaching literacy through synthetic phonics. With actions for each of the 42 letter sounds, this multi-sensory method is very motivating for children and teachers alike as they can see their students achieve. Lastly, our international secondary program makes use of the Cambridge secondary curriculum, an internationally recognised accreditation, which ensures admission to higher education institutions worldwide. 4How is the Cambridge Primary Curriculum different from International Baccalaureate (IB)? |
Both the Cambridge Primary Curriculum and the IB are inquiry-based learning curriculums. However, Cambridge Primary Curriculum sets uniform learning goals, while the IB allows each school to decide their own learning goals. This might lead to varying degrees in quality of education. Since the Cambridge primary Curriculum is standardised, parents are able to find the learning goals that are covered online, regardless of the school the child is attending. It is also multidisciplinary rather than transdisciplinary, which means only subjects that naturally fit into a theme are used rather than forcing every subject to be in every unit. |
5What is Singapore Mathematics? |
Singapore mathematics is a teaching method based on the national mathematics curriculum of Singapore used for Year 1 to Year 6. The term was initially coined in the United States to describe an approach developed initially in Singapore, which teaches students to learn and master fewer mathematical concepts at greater detail and having them learn these concepts using a three-step learning process. The three steps in this process are concrete, pictorial, and abstract. In the first step, students engage in hands-on learning experiences using tangible objects such as chips, dice, or paper clips. This is followed by drawing pictorial representations of mathematical concepts. In the lower grades, we focus mostly on the first two stages. Students then solve mathematical problems abstractly by using numbers and symbols at the higher levels. Singapore Mathematics has been adopted successfully in at least 25 countries. |

Yes, we offer a bilingual program. Parents can select between English and French, English and Mandarin or English and Khmer. While Cambodian citizens are required to take English and Khmer, they may discuss an option of studying a third language. Lessons are taught at a level comfortable to the children during school hours. With globalisation, it is crucial that we hone the multi-lingual abilities of each child to give them a competitive edge. As demand builds for additional languages we will look into providing these. |
